Real estate for sale: houses, villas, apartments in Reggio Calabria, Calabria region
The province of Reggio Calabria in Italy has access directly to the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas, as well as to the Strait of Messina in the western part. The southern part of the coast is called Costa Viola here due to the delightful color of the sea at sunset.
Most of the territory is covered with dense forests with birches, stone oaks and chestnuts. Ferns, oleanders and Indian prickly pear sprout along the rivers and on the rocks.
There is also the Aspromonte State Reserve with rare species of animals and plants.
Reggio Calabria is home to the port of Joya Tauro, which is considered one of the largest ports in the entire sea basin from Suez to Gibraltar. Bergamot is cultivated on the coast, and olive orchards and numerous vineyards grow a little deeper.
On the territory of the province there is a museum of archeology, which was founded in 1981 in the Riace Bronzes cathedral.
The real diamond of the province is Castello Aragonese with its defensive moats, ravelin and two turrets, which have been perfectly preserved even after constant medieval wars. The Cathedral of Reggi Calabria and Pentedattilo are also worth a visit.
